GOOD VIBES (AND MEDICAL BILLS) FOR BUKKA: A RAFFLE (That Has Ended)
If you know me, you also probably know my dog Bukka. Everyone likes to say their dog is the best dog in the world, but in this case it’s true: Bukka is an A++ travel companion, a dog as happy under blankets in an apartment in Brooklyn as he is running next to a tractor in Maine, the kind of animal even people who “don’t like dogs” adore. His only flaw is getting psychotically excited whenever anyone comes over, I guess, but even that kind of rules.
Bukka just turned five and I brought him in a few weeks ago for a routine check-up. They told me he was basically at death’s door with a mysterious kidney infection. We still don’t know exactly what’s wrong, but the medical bills for testing and treatment are significant: He’s going to need a biopsy, at the very least, and is on a cocktail of drugs as well as prescription food that costs more than my own groceries every week.
I’d put the cost of caring for Bukka over the next months somewhere between $5,000 and $6,000. It’s not great. So! My friends and I are having a raffle to fundraise for Bukka’s medical costs.
[this is where the ticket link used to be, but the raffle is over. If You still Feel particularly moved, you can donate using the button below]
You can buy tickets to win a lesson with Brooklyn’s number one fishing influencer, or incredible pieces of art the very talented people I know made, or a very particular and rare cake my mom bakes once a year. Also, you can finally learn to code, if that’s your thing.
Tickets are priced so you can buy them in batches, if you’re so inclined—buy often, buy for your friends, buy for your dad, buy a lot.
Ticket sales will conclude Monday, March 20th. Winners will be contacted the following week.
Any profits I don’t use for Bukka’s care will be donated to the North Shore Animal League, the organization that brought a bus full off puppies to Brooklyn I went “just to check out what the deal is” in the winter of 2018.
And if you for some reason don’t want to do the fun-and-games part and just want to donate to help keep Bukka alive and comfortable, there’s a button to do that too:
Also, please enjoy this meme my friend Will made, and some photos of Bukka because I hear people are generally more inclined to shell out if they think an animal looks smart and/or cute:
